The CCD scan engine in this scanner can focus on smaller barcodes better than most lasers scanners and still read large barcodes. Performance: this scanner outperforms others priced below $200 in quality, range and performance. Unlike other low cost scanners, it quickly and easily decodes barcodes at various angles using patented technology.
Long Range Scanning and Focus: average size bar codes are easily decoded when pulling the trigger anywhere from 4" to 8" away. Other low cost scanners require pulling the trigger at precise distances from the barcode.

Function Key Emulation Mode: The built in decoder can emulate function keys as well as other keys such PgUp, PgDn, Backspace, Tab, Enter, Esc, Insert, Delete, Home and End. To activate this ability, simply enable "Function Key Emulation Mode" by scanning the appropriate barcode in the manual. When enabled, lower ASCII codes in a Code 128 barcode will simulate pressing this key on the keyboard. For example, an ASCII 23 (0x17 in the manual) digit encoded in a bar-code will send the same codes to your computer as if you pressed the F7 function key. UCC/EAN-128 Decoding: most scanners with built-in decoders do not decode the FNC1 codes in UCC/EAN-128 barcodes. However, when the "Code 128 Format" option is set to "UCC/EAN-128", the scanner decodes FNC1 codes according to the UCC/EAN Application Identifier Standard. More about this...

Scanner Focus and Performance:
The performance of this scanner is equal to or better than most laser scanners. This scanner easily read our Code 39 bar code font when printed as small as 6 points (4 mil) and as large as 48 points (32 mil), as well as any size between. Unlike other low cost CCD scanners, this scanner focuses very well on barcodes and even reads poorly printed barcodes. This scanner requires 120mA of power from the USB port, if your USB port cannot supply this much power, we recommend you consider the IDAutomation USB Wand.

USB Barcode Scanner -Scanner Programming:
The Plug 'n Play scanner is ready to use out of the box in most situations. By default, the common barcode types such as Code 39, 128, UPC and EAN are enabled. The manual provided with the scanner is very good; it allows you to program the scanner by scanning bar codes in the manual. There are several scan mode options that can be set, as well as the ability to add preamble, prefix, suffix or postamble data. By default this scanner has the suffix of 0D which is a carriage return. If you desire to disable this, program the string setting on page 74 of the manual to 00. This scanner also includes advanced programming options not found on other scanners, such as the ability to scan function keys from a barcode and the reading of UCC/EAN FNC1 codes.
